Day 25: Poached Pears

My fiance’s favorite fruit is pears, so for today’s challenge, I have decide to give it a fancy twist and make a dessert of poached pears with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Quick note: I am using store-bought vanilla ice cream, but the poached pears and chocolate sauce will both be made from scratch.

I somewhat struggled with finding a recipe, but was glad to find one by John from Food Wishes. Despite it’s fanciness, it’s actually fairly straightforward, especially after the challenge that I went through with yesterday’s cake. Funny enough, the only tricky part was the chocolate ganache which was a thicker consistency than the runniness that I was going for. I also decided to decorate the dish with some gold leaf flakes to give it an extra level of fanciness.

Since we ordered Uber Eats for dinner (no, I did not have the energy to cook Christmas dinner), we ended up eating dessert before dinner by eating these delicious poached pears. I have never made or tried poached pears before and if you haven’t either, I definitely recommend giving these a try. They were a wonderful soft, melt-in-your-mouth sort of texture and paired so well with the chocolate ganache and vanilla ice cream. I honestly didn’t taste much flavor from the pears themselves, maybe just a hint of the vanilla (I used actual vanilla bean pods!).
