Day 5: Risotto

For today’s theme, “something fancy,” I am cooking risotto. I have made it several times before, my first time with the help of HelloFresh back when I got the subscription to motivate me to cook (it only partially worked). It’s actually not as difficult or complex as one might think, but it can be tedious because a large part of the time is spent adding a ladle of stock at a time to let it absorb into the rice so it becomes nice and plump.

You can watch me in action via TikTok. I’ve basically been learning skills as I go – how to create a website, how to create videos on TikTok, how to edit my blog. It’s been quite a journey so far. I can’t believe it’s only day 5, but I guess that means I don’t have to worry about whether this has been enough of a challenge because it’s definitely pushing me.

Fun fact that I don’t mention anywhere on social media: I had to put the risotto back into the pan because it was still a little undercooked, so it goes to show you how 1) as a chef, you should taste your food as you go and 2) social media doesn’t show you everything.
